My journey to wellness and entrepreneurship has been anything but easy. As a mother of four beautiful children - two adopted boys and two biological girls - I've experienced the joys of both surprise and planned parenthood. My career in the oil and gas industry was long and successful, but it was at the age of 45 that I embarked on a transformative wellness journey.
The catalyst for this change was discovering I was pre-menopausal, which came as a shock given my relatively young age and seemingly fit appearance. Despite being slim, I learned I had a leaky gut. This revelation, coupled with my desire to be present for my children and future grandchildren, motivated me to make significant lifestyle changes.
Like many, I've experienced considerable trauma in my life, which I had previously compartmentalized to survive. I began addressing these issues through therapy and hormone treatments. I also delved into studying the Blue Zones and adopted a farm-to-table approach to eating.
My wellness journey has taken me around the world. I discovered Pilates about 2.5 years ago and have since taken over 550 classes in five different countries. The mind-body connection I experienced through Pilates was instant and profound. The focus required for proper technique and precision in Pilates helped me feel truly connected to my body.
I've made conscious efforts to cultivate positivity in my life. This includes avoiding negative media, listening to inspirational podcasts like Jay Shetty's, and nourishing my body and mind with healthy food, music, and entertainment. I've found a particular affinity for House of Core in LA, which offers a community-focused, semi-private Pilates experience with exceptional instructors.
As I transition from my oil and gas career, I'm excited to enter the wellness industry. My goal is to help women and men find a happier, healthier way of life as they navigate their 50s and beyond. Through my venture, Wellness by Kimberly, we'll offer healthy food tips, recipes, skincare products, and collaborations with wellness experts in Houston, LA, and New York.
My approach to fashion is simple and classic, designed to flatter any body type. We'll also be sharing information about wellness retreats and organizing our own.
Being this fit in my 50s isn't just about Pilates - it's a holistic approach encompassing proper nutrition, positive relationships, appreciating life's simple pleasures, travel, effective skincare routines, and stylish yet comfortable fashion choices.
I'm excited to share my expertise in wellness, fashion, and design to help others achieve their best selves. Together, we can embrace a healthier, happier lifestyle.
Kimberly Yates discovered Pilates after a recommendation and found it transformative, completing 550 classes and becoming a certified instructor. The practice helped her manage anxiety and trauma as she approached her 50s, providing a sanctuary and community that was difficult to find as a parent. Pilates' focus on the mind-body connection, breathing, and concentration not only improved her physical fitness but also had a profound impact on her mental well-being and overall wellness. Inspired by her personal transformation and the inclusive nature of Pilates, Yates decided to open House of Core, creating an intimate and welcoming studio that felt like a home away from home for practitioners of all levels.
